Gift Idea - Holiday Mix CDs
I'm not as crafty as Miz Crispy but I decided to post my own version of a simple, but personal holiday gift. I made last year to give to the people in my office and some other friends, and they went CRAZY - the gifts were a huge hit.
I asked people I knew to lend me any holiday CDs that they had (I myself have ZERO) and downloaded some other songs, to make an eclectic mix of holiday music. I tried to get a really good combination of classics, novelty songs, rock songs, and anything else.
Here's a sampling of what I put on the CD -
"Christmastime Is Here" (from "A Charlie Brown Christmas") - Vince Guaraldi Trio
"Merry Christmas, Baby" - Elvis Presley
"Blue Christmas" - Bright Eyes
"Christmas In Hollis" - Run DMC
"Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree" - Brenda Lee
"Silver Bells" - Bing Crosby
"The Hannukah Song" - Adam Sandler
"Do They Know It's Christmas" - Band Aid
"Washington Square" - Chris Isaak
...and so on. Then, I burned copies for my friends.
Next, I designed the CD insert. I found an iconic photo online of Flick from "A Christmas Story" getting his tongue stuck to the pole.
In Photoshop, I added a title at the bottom that read "Merry FLICKIN' Christmas" and then put the track listing on the back.
I printed out copies, cut them to size, and stuck them into CD jewel boxes with the CDs.
It was very simple, but very well-received. Luckily I work in a different office this year so I can re-use the mix!

And good call on the mix of different types of Christmas music. I noticed some of Jessica Simpsons holiday songs were missing...teehee.
I love your picture for the insert, it's perfect!
What a great idea!
Awesome, Whip! I do this every Christmas and make loads of them to hand out. I do a big mix of old and new with the songs as well.. Two of my favs that I found last year were all Xmas songs from Stevie Wonder (One Little Christmas Tree, etc.) and another song from one of an OC Christmas episodes. I have it on my mp3 player so I'll look it up later, lol.
Great idea Whip. The Christmas Story is my older brothers favorite holiday movie, when it comes on TNT for the 24 hour marathon he will watch it several times. When my mom was visiting here last week we saw this same picture for a VISA ad in the metro and I told her that I needed to find it online and email it to him. Now I can so thanks again Whip.
Aw...I did this several years ago! Dif songs, of course.
How about Baby. It's cold outside either the one with Wil Ferrell or the one with Barry Manilow and KT Oslin.
